Following the death of the Oronto Douglas, the Special Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy to President Goodluck Jonathan, the Douglas family of Bayelsa State on Thursday, April 9, 2015 issued an official statement on the sad passing of the renowned human rights lawyer, environmental activists, and government official.
The statement which was signed by Romeo Samuel Douglas on behalf of the family read thus:

The Douglas family of Okoroba, Nembe Local Government of Bayelsa State, announces the passage to glory of our dear son, brother, father, husband, friend, uncle, Oronto Natei Douglas.
He passed on in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the State House Clinic, Abuja.
Oronto was until his death the Special Adviser on Research, Documentation and Strategy to President Goodluck Jonathan.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, family and friends.
Burial arrangements will be announced by the family.
