Reports coming from Maiduguri, the capital of troubled Borno State have it that Nigerian soldiers and Boko Haram insurgents are currently engaged in a fierce gun battle as the sect members launched an attack on Sunday, February 1, 2015 to take control of the large city.
A soldier on the battle front availed that the insurgents had attempted to gain entry into the city via Dalwa, a suburb community on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
He said: “It is the Boko Haram terrorists we are battling with now as you can hear. They wanted to enter through Dalwa. But we are tackling them”.
Residents have informed that heavy artillery is currently rocking the city, with aircraft hovering over the city, although it cannot be confirmed if the aircraft is an air support deployed to assist the ground troops.
A high ranking officer in the city also availed that: “The hoodlums are coming from four different axis. Some are attacking through Njimtilo, some via Dalwa, others are charging through Ngom and Mulai. But our boys are doing their best”.
