Explosion Reported At #WorldCup Viewing Centre In Yobe

Many are feared dead as bomb explosions rocked a viewing centre where football faithfuls were gathered watching the ongoing FIFA World Cup matches in Damaturu, the capital city of Yobe state.

The attack suspected to be masterminded by the dreaded Boko Haram sect occurred late Tuesday evening, June 17, 2014 which left recorded many casualties and left others feared dead.

The police commissioner of Yobe state, Sanusi Ruf’ai, confirming the attacks said: “There was an explosion outside a soccer viewing centre here in Damaturu at around 8:15 pm.

“Our men have deployed to the scene but it’s too early for us to give details.”

A resident who spoke with the press said the area had been cordoned off as police and soldiers were sent to the scene.

Yobe is one of three northeastern states that has been under a state of emergency since May 2014.
