A Federal High Court in Lagos has declared as unlawful the restriction of citizens’ movement during the monthly Lagos environmental sanitation exercise, Punch reports.
In his ruling on Monday, March 16, 2015 the restriction was a violation of the citizen’s right to personal liberty and freedom of movement and at such should be abolished.
Justice Idris stated that such action breached the dictates of sections 35 and 41 of the Constitution.
Against this backdrop however, the judge ruled against the government of Lagos State stopping people from moving about and leading their normal lives from 7am to 10am on the last Saturday of every month during the environmental sanitation exercise.
