An explosion occurred outside the premises of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt while the court was in session, Thursday, July 9, 2015.
The High Court ruled today on the case against the 22 Local Government chairmen and councillors in Rivers State.
The case was heard before Justice Akambi who ruled that the conduct of the elections which saw the emergence the LG chairmen and councillors was illegal and as such was nullified.
This court verdict, effectively declared the LG seats vacant and paves way for the conduct of new elections.
There was heavy security presence on Station Road where the High Court is located, this morning.
The elections, which was conducted by erstwhile Governor of Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi was declared illegal by the courts before it held. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted the elections and the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed victory in all local government areas.
