JUST IN: Court Stops Use Of Soldiers For Election

Must read

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday, March 23, 2015 made a ruling barring the Nigerian Armed Forces from having any role to play in the conduct of the forthcoming general election.

The court made the ruing, stating that it was a violation of Section 217(2)(c) of the Constitution and Section 1 of the Armed Forces Act.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had challenged the use of the Nigerian military in the election, arguing that the arrangement was undemocratic, disregarding the fact that the military had played a major part in the credibility accorded to the gubernatorial elections in Edo and Osun states which brought APC candidates, Adams Oshiomole and Rauf Aregbesola into power in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
