A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos state on Thursday, April 3, 2014 declared that the State Secret Service (SSS) seizure of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s passport was unlawful, and has asked the Federal Government to return the document.
According to reports, the court also awarded Sanusi N50 million in exemplary damages for being illegally detained by SSS men at the Lagos airport on his arrival to Nigeria the day of his suspension.
The court has asked the Federal Government to tender a public apology to the offended party.
The ruling also restrains FG from arresting or detaining him without due process, as well as interfering with his freedom of movement.
