This viral video proves that priests can have fun too.
A pair of tap dancing priests are following in the footsteps of Sister Cristina Scuccia, who contested on Italian version of the singing talent hunt, The Voice and won the show and a recording contract in June.
The duo, Rev. David Rider and Rev. John Gibson, 28, are American priests studying in Rome and they performed a lively dueling tap dance routine at a fundraiser at the North American College, an elite American seminary in the Vatican in April. Their performance was recorded by a journalist, Joan Lewis who shared the video on YouTube.
The video has garnered more than 700,000 views.
The priests’ online popularity has not gone down well with some conservatives, though. Some think that the priests were disrespectful for dancing under a crucifix and a painting of Pope Francis.
“We would just refer them to the Bible,” 29-year-old Rider told the AP. “Where the Lord tells us to live with joy.”
And Sister Cristina? She went on to cover Madonna’s ‘Like A Virgin’. She released the video on October 20, 2014 and it has already received more than 2 million views. Watch the video below:
