NAN – A 25-year-old unemployed man, Abiodun Agboluaje, on Tuesday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, charged with flogging his ex-lover with a horse whip. Agboluaje is facing a charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 5, at about 8.30 p.m., at Mowo area in Badagry. Uko said that the accused and the complainant, Miss Umoh Sarah, got into an argument over the latter’s phone.
“They were together in the room when the accused wanted to go through the phone of the complainant but she refused and this resulted into a heated argument with both parties accusing one another of infidelity.
“It was in the middle of the argument that the accused took a horse whip from under his bed and flogged the complainant several times on her back,” he said.
Uko said that the offence committed contravened Section 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Shola Salami, the counsel to the accused, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case till Aug. 31, for further hearing.
