Jega’s Brother Among Dead In Hajj Stampede, As Death Toll Rises To 769

Family sources confirm that Justice Abdulkadir Jega, a brother to erstwhile chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega is among the Nigerian who dies in the latest Hajj stampede which has claimed 769 lives.

Abdulkadir Jega was a judge of the Court of Appeal and also a brother to the editor-in-chief of Daily Trust Newspaper, Mahmud Jega, Punch reports. The body of the judge, who was a member of the Kebbi State Government delegation to the 2015 Hajj, was found in a mortuary in Mina, a town close to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Another Justice of the Ilorin Division of the Court of Appeal, Justice Musa Hassan Alkali is confirmed to have died in the incident as well.

Also, Taraba State has confirmed the death of a first class traditional ruler, Emir of Zing Abbas Ibrahim  and his two wives in the tragic hajj exercise which occurred in Mina, Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
