Former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, has described as “false and an act of mischief” recent media reports that he is planning to run for the governorship of the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Alamieyeseigha, in a statement issued by the Niger Delta Solidarity Forum (NDSF) and made available to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, explained that he has no plans to contest the governorship of Bayelsa State with anybody.
He called on his supporters and the people of the state to disregard the reports as they were the handiwork of mischief makers.
Alamieyeseigha’s statement, signed by Barrister Nelson Ebebi, Secretary-General of the forum, quoted Alamieyeseigha as saying that he remained a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no intention to abandon the party. The ex-governor said rather, that he would support and contribute to ongoing efforts at rebuilding and repositioning the party.
Alamieyeseigha reaffirmed his total support for the Seriake Dickson administration and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the PDP controlled government in the state.
He also called on all Bayelsans to rally round the second term bid of the governor as he urged them to be focused and not to allow themselves to be deceived by those, he said, did not mean well for them and the state.
“Having served my people as governor about ten years ago, I don’t have any intention to go back to the Government House. After all, I did not forget anything in the Government House and nobody should drag me into such games. I therefore reaffirm my total support for the second term bid of Governor Seriake Dickson”, he stated.
Alamieyeseigha also advised Bayelsans and the entire Ijaw nation to close ranks, saying “this is not the time for the people to be divided for whatever reason” but to “work in one accord to reposition ourselves for greater political relevance”.
