NEW JERSEY, USA – In a candid conversation with sex and relationship therapist Laura Berman on her podcast “The Language of Love with Dr Laura Berman,” entertainer Nick Cannon discussed his expansive family and his perspective on fatherhood.
Cannon has fathered 12 children with six different women and said he’s always envisioned a large family.
“I’ve never heard that clarity, but I heard that like, ‘Yo, you’re gonna be a father of many. There’s gonna be your great influence, your lineage, your offspring are gonna do great things,'” Cannon told Berman.
During the discussion, Cannon drew parallels between his vision of family and the legacy of the Rockefeller name. The multifaceted entertainer, known for his roles on TV, radio, and the music industry, also delved into his relationships with the mothers of his children.
“Some of the women I’ve had children with are monogamous with me, while others just want to co-parent,” he revealed, without specifying further details. Cannon has children with Mariah Carey, Abby De La Rosa, Alyssa Scott, Brittany Bell, Bre Tiesi, and Lanisha Cole.
Cannon has previously expressed his preference for non-monogamy. However, he did share his hope that the mothers of his children would wait until their children are older to pursue monogamous relationships with others.
“I would hope it would happen a little bit later, once you’ve come into your own of what our parenting infrastructure looks like,” Cannon said on the podcast. He further noted his concerns about the mothers of his children “sowing their wild oats” and being “out in these streets.”
Despite his open attitude toward fatherhood and relationships, Cannon shared his discomfort with being mockingly referred to as a “community dick” due to the number of children he has fathered.
And as for adding more to his brood, Cannon remains open, saying in February that he would leave it to God to decide when he should stop having children.
