NAN – The Borno State Government has declared Oct. 27 holiday to mark the beginning of the 1436th Islamic calendar.
A statement issued by Mr Adamu Jiri, the Director of Press at the Deputy Governor’s Office in Maiduguri on Saturday said that the holiday would allow Muslims to reflect on the situations in the country.
“The day should serve as a day of reflection to all Muslims, the day will also serve as day of prayers for lasting peace in both the state and the country,’’ the statement said.
It urged Muslims to offer special prayers for the return of peace to the state and Nigeria as a whole.
“It is a day for Borno people to showcase Islam as a vehicle for social mobilisation towards positive change and societal re-engineering,’’ it said.
