ENUGU, Nigeria – The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has urged Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to avoid letting his political enemies turn the state into a theater of crisis.
The separatist group warned that it would make governance tough for the governor should he allow such a situation to occur.
The warning came from Emma Powerful, the spokesman for IPOB, in reaction to the arrest of some persons during the Biafra Day celebration in Enugu State.
In a statement on Saturday, June 3, 2023, Powerful criticized the arrest and cautioned the governor to remain vigilant to avoid being used against IPOB.
Part of the statement read: “We are reminding the new Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, to shine his eyes so that the Nigeria government, through his political enemies, will not turn the peaceful state of Enugu into a theater of crisis.
If he allows the enemies to use him against IPOB, then we will make Enugu State tough for him to govern.”
Powerful also condemned the Nigerian military’s attack on IPOB members holding a candlelight service to remember Biafra’s fallen heroes and heroines in Emene, Enugu State, on the night of May 29, 2023.
According to him, “Globally, Biafrans gathered on various continents on the 29th and 30th of May, 2023, to honor our fallen heroes and heroines without harassment, but it was only in the zoo called Nigeria that our people were attacked, abducted, and killed.
The Biafrans were peaceful and praying when the gathering was invaded by overzealous Nigerian military.”
The Indigenous People of Biafra is a separatist group advocating for the independence of a region in Southeastern Nigeria known as Biafra.
