ENUGU, Nigeria — The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has taken to the streets of the South-East to distribute flyers and posters, signalling the end of the sit-at-home exercises in the region.
The move aims to communicate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s declaration cancelling the Monday sit-at-home tradition and further emphasise that such a directive will not be utilized again as an act of civil disobedience in IPOB’s ongoing mission for self-determination.
In a press release on Saturday, August 12, 2023, Emma Powerful, the group’s spokesperson, stated, “Any individual mentioning a non-existent sit-at-home in Biafraland is considered a foe and will face consequences.”
The distribution drive, approved by the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is seen as a means to clear any ambiguity.

The statement elaborated: “Biafrans need to be aware of the flyers being spread across the South-East, showcasing our leader’s declaration cancelling Monday’s sit-at-home. The notion is obsolete and will never serve as a tool of civil disobedience in our journey to autonomy.”
Powerful further warned against enforcing the now-terminated sit-at-home mandate, emphasizing the consequences of such actions.
He also discredited any alleged connection between IPOB and so-called “Biafra Government in Exile” groups, particularly one named Autopilot operating from Finland.
Furthermore, the statement urged Biafrans to actively participate in the distribution of flyers and posters throughout the region, highlighting the termination of the Monday sit-at-home tradition.
Asserting Biafra’s independence from external influences, the statement concluded, “Biafraland belongs to its people, and they should guard against entities operating under IPOB’s name for nefarious purposes. We implore all Biafrans to stay vigilant and support this new directive. Those imposing any sit-at-home orders face severe repercussions.”
The declaration from IPOB marks a significant shift in the group’s strategy, emphasizing unity, clarity, and an organized approach to their quest for self-determination.
