ABUJA, Nigeria – The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, refuted claims on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, regarding the dismissal of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu’s, lead counsels, Mike Ozekhome and Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
The group’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, urged the public to disregard the statement attributed to Kanu’s family members about Ozekhome and Ejiofor being sacked.
Powerful insisted that as IPOB lawyers, they can’t be dismissed by Kanu’s family.
Powerful expressed confidence in the legal prowess of both counsels and asked those spreading “laughable rumors” about their termination to stop.
He clarified that they are not Kanu’s family lawyers but rather the attorneys for IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu.
“Biafrans and lovers of Biafra freedom across the world should ignore the purported statement from the so-called brothers of our leader because Mazi Nnamdi Kanu regards IPOB members as his brothers and sisters,” said Powerful.
He encouraged the lead counsels and other legal team members to stay focused on their fight for the unconditional release of Kanu from DSS detention, as ordered by the courts.
“The agenda of IPOB and MNK’s enemies is to get the lead counsels angry and abandon Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Their agenda is dead on arrival as the lead counsels are not amateur to intimidation and blackmail,” Powerful added.
He stressed that Kanu is not in detention because of his family, but for Biafra’s freedom.
He concluded by emphasizing that Kanu has transcended being a family figure, becoming a leader and the face of Biafra, and is thus a national asset for Biafrans who should be protected.
