MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – A 35-year-old man, Musa Ibrahim, from the Maduganari area of Maiduguri, Borno State, was arrested on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, for attempting to unlawfully access the private residence of Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.
The incident took place at approximately 5:30 AM at the Vice President’s residence located in New GRA, Gwange 3 Ward, off Bama Road in Maiduguri, a city known for its ongoing security challenges.
According to intelligence sources quoted by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Ibrahim attempted to scale the perimeter wall of the residence, using the Gadabul River bank behind the western side of the property.
However, his efforts were thwarted when security personnel on duty noticed his actions.
Upon being spotted, Ibrahim attempted to flee but was shot in the leg by the security guards.
He was promptly arrested and transported to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical treatment.
Sources indicate that he is currently receiving care and is in a stable condition.
The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), which is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
In response to the security breach, authorities have reviewed and strengthened the security arrangements at the Vice President’s residence to prevent any future attempts.
This attempted intrusion into the Vice President’s private residence highlights the ongoing security concerns in Borno State, a region grappling with insurgent activity and security challenges.
