Inspector General Of Police Orders Prosecution Of Political Thugs

Must read

Nigeria’s Inspector-General (IG) of Police, Suleiman Abba, has ordered all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police across the country to proceed with the prosecution of all political thugs currently in police custody.

Abba said all such inmates were guilty of contravening section 227 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) and sections 94 and 95 of the Electoral Act and needed to face the full wrath of the law.

Speaking via a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja and dates Wednesday, January 28, 2015, the IG said the police was poised to ensure safety during, before and after the polls, warning that anyone caught conducting himself violently will be brought to book.

“Some suspects have been arrested in connection with perpetration of violence during political campaigns at different locations. The IG has therefore ordered their immediate prosecution in the court of law no matter their status in the society,” parts of the statement read.

Abba further advised Nigerian politicians to play fair as the police will deal squarely with anyone caught engaging in acts of hooliganism.
