Insecurity: We Arrested 999 Suspects In 2021 – Katsina Police

The Katsina State Police Command said it arrested a total of nine hundred and ninety-nine (999) suspects in connection with six hundred and eight (608) reported cases in the year 2021.

Isah Gambo, the Police public relations officer in the state, Superintendent of Police SP, disclosed this to journalists on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, AIG Sanusi Buba during the end of the year press conference held at the state command on Thursday, December 30, 2021.

SP Gambo at the briefing gave the breakdown of the arrests of the year under review.

He said, “a total number of eight hundred and seventy-four (874) of the arrested suspects are undergoing prosecution in various competent Courts of Law in the State.”

“He also disclosed that the total number of one hundred and fifty-seven (157) suspected Armed Robbers were arrested and one hundred and forty-five (145) suspects charged to court while twelve (12) suspects are under investigation.

The police spokesman also gave the “total number of suspected kidnappers arrested during the year under review as Sixty-five (65) of which sixty-three (63) suspects have been charged to court while two (2) suspects are under investigation.”

SP Isah equally revealed that “Two hundred and forty-four (244) suspected cattle rustlers were arrested, of which two hundred and thirty (230) suspects have been charged to court while fourteen (14) suspects are under investigation.”

However, he said the command lost five policemen in the course of the campaign while it succeeded in “neutralizing thirty-eight (38) bandits in various gun battles while five (5) police officers paid the supreme price.”

During the year under review also “One thousand two hundred and forty-three (1,243) domestic animals were recovered which consist of eight hundred and sixty-seven (867) cows, three hundred and fifty-two (352) sheep, twenty-four (24) goats and one (1) donkey were recovered from the hoodlums.”

In connection to the rape and unnatural offences during the year under review, the police spokesman said: “two hundred and forty-six (246) suspects were arrested in one hundred and ninety-five (195) reported cases.”

Isah also disclosed that “Sixty-three (63) victims were rescued in four (4) reported cases of Human Trafficking which were transferred to NAPTIP office in Kano State.”

Also “twenty (20) suspected stolen motor vehicles were and eighteen (18) stolen/bandits’ motorcycles were also recovered,” Isah said.

The command also succeeded in recovering the following arms and ammunition:

4 General Purpose Machine Guns, 44 AK 47 rifles, 1 LAR rifle, 1 G3 Rifle, 20 Locally made guns, 689 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition of AK 47 rifle, 109- Anti Aircraft ammunition (AA)

The police commissioner in the state, recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General AIG of Police, Sanusi Buba thanked members of the Fourth Estate of Realm for their “immense cooperation and partnership with the command.”

He said, they “have sincerely and passionately displayed fraternity and collaboration towards strengthening the relative peace and security in the state through fair and balanced reportage of the Command activities.”

AIG Buba said, “the fight against crime and criminality is so dynamic and not an easy one but I urge you to continue to project the hard and good work of the Police and other security agencies to the general public.”

He equally “acknowledged the effort of sister security agencies for their collaborative efforts in this campaign.” He used the opportunity to thank the good people of the state for their unflinching support, understanding, resilience, and cooperation to the Command throughout his almost three (3) years of stewardship as Commissioner of Police, Katsina State.

He said, “I am very grateful to you all. I wish to also call on the maximum support of all and sundry in the aid of security agencies in the state as we cannot do it alone.”
