The friends of a man who supposedly committed suicide were no doubt perplexed to see him serving tables in a cafe.
Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund terminated the inquest into the disappearance of Cooma resident Matthew Shirvington, 28, at Glebe Coroner’s Court.
Magistrate Freund found that he was still alive after two of his school friends spotted him working in a cafe at Airlie Beach, in far north Queensland, last December, the Telegraph reports.
Shirvington fled when they called out to him and has not been seen since then, according to the cafe owner.
Queensland Police have since confirmed with the cafe owner that Mr Shirvington was working there using the name Charlie Thompson.
Mr Shirvington’s car was found facing Bengello Beach near Moruya Airport on the NSW south coast filled with empty beer and vodka bottles last June.
A suspected suicide note that included the words “I’m sorry” and his identification we’re also left in the car but his body was never found.
NSW Police will now work with the missing persons unit to make contact with him.
