Mrs. Amina Zakari, Acting Chairman , Independent National Electoral Commission has indicated that the commission would recommend to the Federal Governement, the Residency Card Initiative which has been adopted in Ondo State.
The Residency Card Initiative, popularly called Kaadi Igbeayo in Ondo State, is an initiative of the state government to get the data of all residents of the state, including their bio-data, blood group, medical record and some other details of the holders.
Mrs. Zakari, through the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, who represented her at the inauguration of the Residency Card Initiative, on Friday, July 3, 2015 stated that if the project is adopted, the card would enable owners to vote in any part of the country without the risk of duplication of votes.
According to a statement made by the state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, the INEC boss also mentioned that it was quite interesting to note that the activities of the owner already stored on the card would automatically be detected if presented for verification in any other part of the state.
Professor Doyin Akinyosoye, a former Statiscian General of the Federation, lauded the initiative , disclosing that if the federal government adopts the initiative and apply it at the national level, it would aid effective planning in the country and ensure equitable distribution of the nation’s wealth.
