The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed a new date for the supplementary election to conclude the governorship polls in Kogi State.
According to a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 the supplementary election has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
The commission declared the governorship election inconclusive on Saturday, November 21, 2015 after over 40, 000 votes were cancelled due to some election irregularities in 91 polling units
The statement signed by INEC’s Secretary, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, stated that the commission will also allow the All Progressives Congress (APC) to replace its governorship candidate, the late Prince Abubakar Audu, in the election,
Part of the statement read: “The commission, has after due consideration of the circumstances, decided to conclude the process by conducting election in the 91 affected polling units as announced by the returning officer.
“It also decided to allow the APC to fill the vacancy created by the death of its candidate.
“Accordingly, notice is hereby given to all the 22 political parties participating in the Kogi governorship election that supplementary election in the 91 affected polling units shall hold on Dec. 5.’’
