A 23-year-old cobbler, Yusuf Ojuolape, along with his friend, a bouncer simply identified as Akibu, have been accused of defiling six-year-old twin sisters on Okearin street in Lagos Island.
It was learnt that the primary two pupils lived in the same compound with the men and were sexually assaulted on at least six different occasions before their mother reported the matter at the police station.
Their mother, Mrs Akeem said she came to know about the assault when she discovered swelling around her daughters private parts, while she was bathing them. It was then that she asked them what happened and they told her it was Bro Yusuf that has been fingering them.
Akibu however, took to his heels when the police arrived the scene and the police succeeded in arresting Yusuf.
Ojuolape was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s court on Tuesday February 4th 2014 on one count of indecent assault.
The Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Mattias Efe, told the court that medical tests performed on the victims indicated that they had sustained injuries in their vaginas.
The charge sheet reads thus: “That you Yusuf Ojuolape ‘m’ between June 18 and 22, 2013 at 23, Okearin Street, Lagos Island, Lagos in the Magisterial District, did indecently assaulted 6-year-old twins, (names withheld), by inserting your finger into their vargina and causing them injuries and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 135 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2003.”
The defendant pleaded not guity and elected summary trial. He was not represented by any defence counsel.
The magistrate, S.O. Solebo, asked to see the medical reports, which both the IPO and prosecutor said they could not read due to poor handwriting.
Solebo said, “The defendant is admitted to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum who must be resident in Lagos, with evidence of tax payment. Their addresses must be verified.
“The victims of the offence should be taken to a government general hospital for proper medical test.”
