ABUJA, Nigeria — The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, asserted that it has substantial and “incontrovertible” evidence against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in a petition it filed at the Presidential Election Tribunal.
In a press conference held in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, confidently stated that the party’s facts and body of evidence were irrefutable.
“Our party restates its confidence in the ability of the judiciary to discharge its constitutional duty dispassionately based on the evidence before it,” Ologunagba declared.
According to Ologunagba, during the pre-hearing session on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the PDP legal team announced the filing of a motion before the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, requesting for a live broadcast of the court proceedings.
He described the application as ‘innocuous’, underscoring the party’s commitment to openness and transparency in line with the principles of participatory democracy.
“This application is in the interest of openness, which is an essential ingredient of participatory democracy, especially as Nigerians are desirous of being directly involved at every stage of the electoral process,” he said.
Ologunagba maintained that the majority of Nigerians voted massively for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, and they are keen on seeing the mandate retrieved and restored to the PDP and its candidate.
The National Publicity Secretary called on Nigerians to stay alert, informed, and law-abiding as the party commences what he termed as a “crucial phase in the quest to rescue, rebuild, and redirect our nation from the misrule of the APC.”
The PDP’s accusations and petition against the APC and its candidate, Tinubu, mark a significant development in the post-election dispute, which has held the nation’s attention since the election results were announced.
