Two dreaded cults have clashed in Oguta community over rivalry issues, as one person was feared dead and others injured severely on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
Reports made known to journalists confirmed that the clashes were as a result of some undisclosed lingering issues which the cult members considered in negligence.
Oguta has always been known for cult activities in recent past. The tragic event took place just as the governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, paid a courtesy call to the Ezes in a neigbouring village.
The clash is alleged to be an extension of the ongoing cult crisis in Rivers state as residents in Oguta fled seeking safety before officers of the Nigeria police got to the scene to calm the upsurge. It took the combined effort of the army and police to disperse the cult members.
An eye witness gathered that while they were in the area, a group of different cult youths abruptly emerged and shot sporadically at themselves, development which left the entire community in imperative turmoil.
Local security agencies have said that candid efforts to uncover the major causes of the upsurge, stating that arrest will be made to further the investigation.
The man which was recovered dead in the crisis have been identified to be members of the community. To this end, security has been beefed up in strategic locations around Oguta community in Imo state to forestall any possible reprisal from some groups of people who are been alleged to make revenge.
