Seattle Sounders FC striker, Obafemi Martins last played for Nigeria in March 2013 during a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya.
The 31-year-old who has scored 15 goals for his MLS club this season was recently re-invited by Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh.
Obagoal as he is fondly called has expressed surprise about his recall to the Super Eagles. Speaking to BBC Sports, he had this to say: “It was a bit of a shock, but a nice shock. I’m very happy, because I have always worked hard, supported and respected all the players picked by the coaches.”
He also thanked Sunday Oliseh while noting that he would make the best of the opportunity.
“I thank coach Oliseh for this great opportunity. I’m just looking forward to going out there and playing for Nigeria again,” he noted.
