Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Nigeria’s minister of state for petroleum on Thursday, June 16, visited Kurutie, Okerenkoko, for an on-the-spot assessment of the on-going construction of the Nigerian Maritime University.
The university project has been abandoned and marked for destruction by embattled minister for transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi.
Dr. Kachikwu went without a retinue of guards or aides. He was well received by residents of the community and snapped photos with some of them.
On Monday, Kachikwu demonstrated to Amaechi how a responsible leader and government official should approach issues of development at a town hall meeting in Uyo where he disagreed on the cancellation of the Maritime University project and went on to say that Amaechi rejects the project in transportation, he would make room for it in petroleum.
“Every project in the South South should be developed,” Kachikwu said to loud applause from the audience.
