ONITSHA, Nigeria – In a video that has gone viral, Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Prophet Odumeje and the founder of the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention Deliverance Ministry based in Onitsha, Anambra State has credited the recent appreciation of the Nigerian Naira against the US dollar to his divine intervention, employing a power he refers to as “Abido Shaker.”
During a recent service with his congregation, the flamboyant and often controversial cleric boldly stated his involvement in the naira’s significant recovery in the foreign exchange market.
This comes as the Nigerian currency experienced a notable uplift, trading at N1,360 and N1,408.04 per USD at the parallel and official markets, respectively. This marks a substantial recovery from its previous position of N1,920 per USD just a few weeks prior.
Odumeje’s statement, “I used ‘Abidoshaker’. When I am speaking about powers, I am not a joker. Google all my miracles,” underscores his conviction in the supernatural influence he claims to wield over economic matters.
He further highlighted his previous pronouncements from the pulpit, where he vowed to deploy his powers against the US dollar, boldly declaring his success in this endeavour.
The cleric did not stop at claiming victory over the foreign exchange rates; he also ventured into the realm of political prophecy. “No pastor tried that. No pastor said that kind of thing. I will still bring down the dollar and still handle the presidential seat of Nigeria. I have never said anything without perfecting it,” he asserted, hinting at a future involvement or influence in Nigeria’s presidential affairs.
Odumeje’s claim has sparked a mix of reactions, from disbelief to awe, among Nigerians. While some view his assertions as another example of his well-known theatrics, others are intrigued by the possibility of spiritual influence on economic trends.
As the story unfolds, it remains to be seen how Odumeje’s proclamations will impact his following and the wider public discourse on the intersection of faith, finance, and governance in Nigeria.
