‘I only honoured an invitation, never arrested by EFCC’ – Benue’s Former Governor Ortom

Must read

MAKURDI, Nigeria – The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has debunked allegations that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

This response comes in the wake of social media reports claiming that the former governor had been taken into custody by the anti-graft agency in Makurdi on Monday, June 19, 2023.

In a statement released on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, clarified that the ex-governor was not arrested or detained, but had merely honored an invitation extended by the EFCC.

The statement specified that Ortom had visited the EFCC Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi in response to their invitation.

Contradicting rumors circulating in some sections of the media, the statement reads, “The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, visited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to honor the invitation of the commission.”

Ortom has maintained his transparency, stating that he’s ready to cooperate with any inquiries by anti-graft agencies, emphasizing that he has “nothing to hide regarding his stewardship of Benue State.”
