Senate President Bukola Saraki has debunked rumours making the rounds that he has fled the country in the wake of his legal battle with the Code of Conduct Tribunal, which issued an arrest warrant on him following his refusal to appear before the tribunal to defend allegations of false declaration of assets levied against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.
Reacting to the claims the Spokesman to the Senate President, Yusuph Olaniyonu,on Sunday, September 20, 2015, told Vanguard via a telephone chat that Saraki was not in hiding but had only just returned to Abuja from Illorin, the Kwara State capital.
He said: “No. we are just arriving Abuja from Ilorin. Why will he leave Nigeria? For what? We are in Abuja. At least you know where he lives, you can come and have dinner with him.”
Whaen asked if Saraki will appear before the CCT, he said: “I can’t answer that question. It is a legal matter, only his lawyer will answer but you know there are three angles to the matter. You have the Federal High Court, CCT and Court of Appeal.”
