The thief had raided the couple’s room in a Motel 6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and ordered the woman to give him all her money and valuables.
When 65-year-old Chuck de Caro, overheard the thief on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 he quickly jumped out of shower in his naked state just to rescue his 68-year-old wife, Lynne Russell, a former CNN anchor.
According to World Wide Weird News, De Caro confronted the thief while still naked, and attempted to reason with him but the unrepentant bandit shot him three times on the abdomen and leg instead.
This propelled De Caro to shoot the thief dead with a pocket 9 mm handgun in retaliation.
Russell a licensed private investigator, and a black-belt martial artist, and her husband are skilled in self-defense and both have licences to own firearms.
She had once appeared in a talk show hosted by Conan O’Brien in 1994 wearing a little black dress and a thigh-holstered handgun.
On his part, De Caro, who is a former CNN investigative reporter, also consults on warfare information for the Pentagon.
