How Buhari, Saraki Rift Is Stalling World Bank Loan

Must read

The row between President Muhammadu Buhari and Senater President Bukola Saraki is stalling the smooth sailing of a $70billion World Bank loan sought by the Adams Oshiomole-led Edo State Government, The Cable reports.

According to the report, the development loan, which is in its final stage of approval requires a country guarantee which must be approved by the senate before it can be granted.According to gatherings, President Buhari is yet to recognise the Saraki-led senate leadership which was not in line with the choices of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and hence, has not written the required letter to the senate seeking approval for the loan.

Instead of writing the letter, President Buhari was said to have directed the Head of Service, Danladi Kifasi to write the letter.

Upon reception of the letter, Saraki was said to have written back to Kifasi pointing out the error as Kifasi has no role to play in the country securing a foreign loan.It remains to be seen how long the said rift between the country’s number 1 and number 3 will go on for.
