A woman identified as Elizabeth Okolie, 33, has been arrested by police officials for allegedly selling her 3-month-old baby for N1.5 million in Okpanam community, Asaba, Delta State.

Okolie, a trader, reportedly sold the baby because the father refused to accept being the father.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Commissioner, Alkali Baba Usman, disclosed that his men arrested the woman on her way to Benin City following a tip off.

According to Daily Post, Okolie made useful statements to the police during interrogation, and the detectives have gone after the buyer of the baby.

Family sources disclosed that Okolie, a secondary school drop-out, escaped with the man she claimed she had been married to and got pregnant.

The CP noted that she was arrested through useful information that the baby she delivered three months ago was sold to an unidentified buyer after a misunderstanding with the man she claimed to be her husband.

“We have made frantic efforts to bring the buyer to book and our men have gone after the buyer while the woman is currently in our custody helping the police with investigation.

“Meanwhile, the man she claimed to be her husband denied paternity of the baby.”
