Housewife Shot and Killed, Husband Injured in Bizarre Abduction Incident in Jalingo

Must read

JALINGO, Nigeria – Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers targeted a home in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo, Taraba State, in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident resulted in the death of a housewife and injury to her husband, further exacerbating concerns over the rising crime rate in the area.

Usman Abdullahi, Spokesman for the Taraba Police Command, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

He stated that the assailants entered the residence of Mr. Balanko Alex Gamalia with the intent to abduct him and his wife.

During the attempt, both were shot; Mrs. Gamalia died at the scene, while Mr. Gamalia is currently hospitalized.

In addition to this tragedy, two more individuals, including another woman, were abducted from the same household.

“Police are on the trail of the kidnappers,” said Abdullahi, urging the public to assist with any information that may help apprehend those responsible.

The incident is another grim marker in what residents describe as a disturbing uptick in criminal activity in Taraba State.

Just last week, abducted individuals had to pay a ransom totaling N7 million to regain their freedom.

One of the victims recounted the harrowing experience, stating that they were chained and treated as slaves by their captors.

Residents and civil organizations are calling on the government and security agencies to step up efforts in restoring law and order.

“The situation is becoming unbearable; we can’t continue to live in fear,” said Aisha Yusuf, a resident of Jalingo.

The state government has not yet issued a statement, but the incident is likely to increase public pressure on authorities to take more effective measures against kidnapping and other forms of crime.

As the community mourns and waits for justice, questions are raised about the effectiveness of current security measures and the urgency needed to address the deteriorating situation.

For now, the Taraba Police Command continues its investigation and manhunt, with the hope that public cooperation will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the criminals involved.
