A 22-year-old housemaid killed her employer’s 10-month-old baby boy after she wrapped and stashed him inside a drawer for three hours because he made ‘too much’ noise.
The maid, Violet Moyo, was subsequently arrested after she abandoned the baby, Ethan Phiri, to watch television in a different part of the house.
Prosecutor, Angeline Munyeriwa said the baby was left in Moyo’s care after the parents left.
She fed him with porridge according to The Chronicles, and put him to sleep before she went about her chores.
It was learnt that the baby woke up after about five hours, and started crying.
The housemaid made efforts to get him shut his mouth but it all proved abortive.
It was at this juncture that the apparently enraged Moyo took the bizarre action which led to the baby’s eventual suffocation and death.
The police stated that Moyo confessed that she was incensed because the little boy was crying too much.
This is not the first case of house maids brutalizing the children under their care.
Towards the end of 2014, a Ugandan housemaid was exposed after she hit and kicked a toddler under her care because she puked while she fed her.
