Housekeeper Jailed For Stealing Mistress’ Underwear In Lagos

A Magistrate Court sitting in Igbosere area of Lagos State has arraigned a 20-year-old housemaid, Vivian Simeon-Michael, for allegedly stealing her employer’s underwear worth N295, 000.

Simeon-Michael was sentenced to two months imprisonment without an option of a fine for the offence.

According to reports, the defendant pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing preferred against her by the police.

Following the plea, the presiding Magistrate, A. T. Omoyele, delivered the verdict on her, noting that ‘she is a first offender who must see that crime does not pay.’

The police prosecutor, Corporal Cyricaus Osuji, had told the court that the suspect committed the offence on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Isale Eko Way, Dolphin Estate Ikoyi, residence of her employer, Bisi Awoniyi, where she stole a set of underwear, and other items.

Osuji said: “She stole a set of underwear, three sets of `buba’ and wrappers, seven pieces of pants, bracelets, 10 pieces of handkerchief and seven pieces of face towel.

“The other items are two pair of stockings and night wears all valued at N295, 000.”
