Aminu Achida, the speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, has left the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Achida was received on Sunday in Sokoto by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, the PDP Vice-Presidential candidate in respect of the 2023 election.
Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, while reacting to the defection expressed happiness over the acceptance of Achida to join the PDP in the state.
“Today you are returning home. I am happy that you are satisfied and convinced with the PDP leadership in Sokoto and Nigeria,” he said.
Since the conclusion of the APC primary elections, several top politicians of the party have defected to other political parties.
On Sunday, Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno, led some APC senators to meet Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, to help address the internal crisis in the Senate caucus of the party.
Similarly, last week, Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the APC, expressed concern over defections that have hit the party in recent weeks, vowing to find a solution to the challenge.
