An 18-year-old woman has been severely injured by her lover who beat her to pulp following suspicion that she was cheating on him.
Linda Phulani, is currently lying in a critical condition after she sustained horrible injuries on her back and buttocks following the encounter in the hands of her husband, John Yasini, at Kumbuyo village, Tembwe in traditional authority (TA) Mlonyeni in the district of Malawi.
Officials of the Mchinji hospital in the area where Phulani was taken to, said she lost a large quantity of blood following the encounter.
According to Malawi News Agency, the father of the victim, Willy Phulani revealed that his daughter eloped with the daredevil in January 2015 without their consent.
He further disclosed that ever since then, the family had been hearing that their daughter was in an abusive marriage.
“Our daughter eloped with the man without our consent and we have been hearing reports that she was in an abusive marriage,” he said.
Some of their relatives were sent to probe the rumours and Phulani always assured them that all was well with her.
However, things got worse on Thursday, April 16, 2015 after Yasini battered the woman with chains and steel rods when she returned from a visit to a neighbouring village where she went to see some friends without his permission.
The shabby looking Yasini flared up and accused her of cheating on him and dragged her on top of a hot item after the severe battery.
Phulani was badly injured and left to the mercy of death before he reluctantly took her to a district hospital.
The suspect was later arrested by the Malawian police where he admitted to committing the crime after he heard rumours that his woman was cheating on him.
He further stated that he believed the rumours were true after Phulani left the house on the fateful day without informing him first.
Yasini blamed the devil for pushing him to the wall and making him commit such offence.
He said, “I am a good person and have never committed any crime in my life. I did not intend to harm my wife. It is the work of the devil. I wish her well. In fact, I was the one who took her to our Local hospital in our area.
He was remanded in custody and according to the Mchinji police public relations officer, will be charged to court for domestic violence as soon as investigations are over.
