Officers of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested and taken into custody a 71-year-old man identified as Daniel Okpo, for hacking his 60-year-old wife, Alice Ita Daniel, to death in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in the State Criminal Investigation Department, Mike Okoli, revealed to newmen that the suspect carried out the dastardly act on the victim while she was asleep.
He said; “This man, Ita Daniel Okpo, in a most wicked act, slaughtered his wife with a machete and we arrested him.
“When asked, he admitted to killing his wife but said the late wife, Alice, always quarreled with him and that she was the first to carry machete. Gentlemen, but our findings revealed that the woman was sleeping when she was hacked to death.”
The suspect who admitted to committing the heinous crime while being questioned said that the reason for killing his wife was because of her promiscuity as she derived pleasure in sleeping with men of all ages, shapes and sizes right inside his house.
“I regret my act, but I was forced to kill her because it was too much on me. In fact, at a point, she openly told me she would rather kill me than to stop sleeping with these men. To match words with action, she had been fighting me several times. So, on that fateful day, while we fought, I killed her”, said the 71 year old Ita Daniel Okpo.
The ACP advised the people to avoid taking laws into their own hands but to always report their grievances to the police also noting that often times, taking laws into one’s own hands led to committing criminal offences with grave consequences.
He hinted at the fact that Mr. Okpo would soon be arrainged in court and asked the citizens and indiegenes of Akwa Ibom to stay away from provocation or acting on anger. “Report to the police and let due process take its natural course”, he submitted.
