Must read

OSE, Nigeria — A senior police officer, attached to the Ondo State command, was tragically killed on Monday, July 17, 2023, by a hit-and-run driver on duty along the Ifon/Sobe highway in the Ose council area.

The unnamed officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, was reportedly working at a checkpoint set up to curb the activities of criminals when a driver, who had been flagged down, instead knocked down the officer and fled the scene.

The officer died instantly from the impact.

“His other colleagues gave the driver a hot chase, suspecting that the driver might be one of the kidnappers in the area,” a source disclosed.

After a high-speed pursuit that crossed state boundaries, the culprit was eventually apprehended in Edo state, a neighboring state to Ondo, at a military checkpoint.

Funmi Odunlami, the spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrest.

“While the police on duty tried to stop him (driver) in some of the checkpoints, he didn’t stop. So, our officers were alerted on the highway but on getting to a particular place around Ifon, the driver swapped and hit an ASP, and the officer died immediately. The unidentified driver fled the scene immediately after the accident occurred,” Odunlami detailed.

She further revealed, “The driver, was, however, pursued, and fortunately for us he (driver) was arrested by the military men at Sobe in Edo state.”

The spokesperson added that the remains of the deceased officer have since been deposited in the morgue.

The arrest provides a small measure of solace, but the incident has underscored the escalating criminal activities in the region and the risks posed to law enforcement personnel.

SAD: Lagos Police Confirm Murder of Instagram Influencer Augusta Onuwabuagbe

The Lagos Police Command confirmed the gruesome murder of a 21-year-old Instagram influencer, Augusta Osedion Onuwabuagbe, inside her lover’s apartment in Ajah, Lagos.

Investigators found Augusta’s body mutilated, adding a chilling layer to the unfolding tragedy.

The murder suspect, a 26-year-old man known by the alias ‘Killaboi’ and identified as Benjamin, is on the run.

He left behind a cryptic note the police believe is a confession to the crime.

According to law enforcement, the victim’s mother, unable to reach her daughter, initiated the tragic discovery.

Following a quarrel with Benjamin, Augusta, an undergraduate at Lead University in Ibadan, Oyo State, had informed her mother on July 11, 2023, that she intended to visit him to resolve the issue.

Growing anxious after failing to contact either of them, the concerned mother reported the situation on July 15, 2023.

After forcing entry, the authorities found Augusta’s lifeless body in her lover’s apartment.

“A police source stated, “As soon as the police opened the door, the girl’s body was discovered in a pool of her blood with her private part chopped off. The body was fast decomposing and was quickly recovered.”

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos Police Command spokesman, confirmed the horrifying findings and noted visible signs of violence and struggle on the body.

“The place was cordoned for forensic experts to conduct their investigations,” he stated.

An confessional note was recovered from the scene, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend Benjamin, who vanished after the incident.

In a surprising twist, Benjamin allegedly confessed to the crime via Instagram, stating that he had mistakenly stabbed Augusta during an argument and fled the scene in panic.

He denied allegations of ritualistic motives and professed that Augusta was the love of his life.

His Instagram story painted a narrative of regret, guilt, and suicidal ideation. “I want to end my life now because I have lost the one I cherish. I want to do the right thing and turn myself in. I will gladly end it by paying with my life now,” he wrote.

He lamented his actions, stating, “I can’t leave with this guilt, I’m going crazy… Woman has ended me. I will turn myself in shortly. Woman, Woman, Woman.”

Evidence of a luxurious lifestyle, replete with globe-trotting vacations and extravagant gifts, was strewn across Augusta’s Instagram page, casting an eerie light on the glamorous facade of their relationship.

As this grim story unfolds, it underscores the dark underbelly of the social media world, often concealed beneath glitzy posts and glamorous lifestyles.

As the manhunt for Benjamin continues, so searches for answers in a tragedy that has sent shockwaves across Lagos and beyond.
