An engine failure on a private plane left a mother and her two daughters widowed
A freak accident has left a mother and her two daughters widowed [via Newser]. Doug Symiczek, 49, took his two sons-in-law, Kyle Parton, 29, and Jacob Griffiths, 32, on a short flight the morning of July 6. The investigation is ongoing, but it looks like the plane’s engine failed near Lake Elsinore in California. Symiczek, an experienced pilot, attempted to land but hit a tree and crashed into the side of a mountain.
Both of the young men left behind pregnant wives. Griffiths’s wife, Amanda, is three months pregnant and the couple had just taken the announcement photos the day before. “He kissed (Amanda’s) belly and said ‘I love you’ and I’ll see you in a little while,” before leaving on the short trip, Griffiths’s step-mother told the OC Register.
Parton’s wife, Breanna, was due the day of the crash. Symiczek and his wife, Kim, were coming up on their 30-year wedding anniversary.
Their community has reached out to help the family, and a friend has set up adonation page to help the three women cover funeral costs and support their future children. Devastating.
