The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, on Friday, September 25, 2015 has banned all members of the National Working Committee and all spokesperson in their state chapters from issuing statements on national issues, stating that only the National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed was authorized to make such statements
This comes on the heels recent statements by several high ranking APC members and spokesmen, especially as regards the on going trial of Senate President by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
It would be recalled that the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Timi Frank had written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari calling for the end of the ”impunity” against Saraki.

Another recent statement from a top APC stalwart whose statement recently caused an uproar is the Spokesman of the APC in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, who recently hinted that Saraki’s trial is more of a vengeful witch hunt than an actual corruption trial.

In his statement, Oyegun said it the trend of party officials releasing statements on national issues was “totally wrong and unacceptable as only the National Chairman and the National Publicity Secretary can speak for the party on national issues”.
He also demanded that any member of the NWC who wishes to speak on behalf of the party should clear such a statement with him first.
He also directed all state publicity secretaries of the party should henceforth “restrict their statements to issues concerning their various states”.
“It is expected that all concerned will adhere strictly to this guideline,” he added.
