The headless body of a yet-to-be identified man has been discovered at Amese community in Akure, the Ondo State capital beside a prayer mountain.
According to Punch, the body was discovered on Thursday, December 17, 2015 by the worshippers who went to the mountain to pray, even though nobody could attest to when the man was actually murdered.
Residents were said to have fled from their homes due to an alleged unlawful detainment by the police since the incident was reported to the police station in the area.
A resident who preferred anonymity said: “After the matter had been reported at the Ijapo Police Station, the policemen combed the entire area, arresting residents indiscriminately. Those that went to report at the police station were also detained by the police. The police said the arrest of the people was part of their investigation.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the incident said an ongoing investigation has been launched into the matter to unravel who might have carried out such a horrible act.
Joseph however, denied the reports that residents were arrested indiscriminately in connection with the incident.
He said: “The police did not arrest anybody. When we got information about the incident, we sent our men there to remove the body and also invited some of the residents to ask a few questions from them. We did not arrest or detain anybody.”
