At Least 15 Dead As Hausa Man Kills Woman In Imo Community [GRAPHIC PHOTOS]

At least 10 persons have been feared dead and several others injured in a blood spilling clash between the indigenes of Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State and Hausa people living in the community on Friday, August 12, 2016.

According to a reports from the area, an Hausa security man chased a girl hawking snacks into a house with intent to harm her.

When the only elderly woman in the house intervened to stop him, he picked up a shovel lying on the ground and killed both of them.

Another lady with a child saw him and raised alarm. He was caught and killed. By evening, about five Hausa men had been killed.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports indicate that one of the female victims is a seamstress from Arondizuogu who recently returned from Cameroun but is resident in Akokwa. Efforts are being made to verify the report and to identify the victim in question.

An eye witness said the man chased down a girl hawking snack and she ran to take cover in a nearby home where an elderly woman attempted to intervene on her behalf.

It was gathered that the irate man overpowered and killed both the girl and the elderly woman with a shovel. According to the source, the incident has sparked outrage in the Community.

The Police and other security agencies have taken over security in Akokwa.

The elders and leaders of Akokwa clan are rallying to ensure that the youths are calmed down for the meantime to avert an escalation of the crisis.
