Again! Harvey Weinstein Indicted on New Sex Crime Charges in New York

Must read

NEW YORK, USA – Disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on new sex crime charges by a Manhattan grand jury, according to his attorney Arthur Aidala.

The indictment, which could include allegations from three women, was confirmed by prosecutor Nicole Blumberg during a court hearing on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

However, details of the charges will remain sealed until Weinstein’s arraignment, which is expected next week.

Weinstein, 72, was not present at the hearing due to a recent heart procedure that left him medically unfit to attend.

The allegations span incidents between 2005 and 2016, with the charges reportedly tied to three separate women.

At a prior hearing, prosecutors described the alleged assaults but did not identify the accusers by name.

Details of the Allegations

The first alleged assault occurred at a residential building in lower Manhattan during the winter of 2005-2006.

The second accuser claims Weinstein assaulted her at a Tribeca hotel in May 2016.

A third woman has alleged that Weinstein sexually assaulted her at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in 2006, according to court documents reviewed by CNN.

Prosecutors have indicated that these new charges are separate from the allegations of Jessica Mann and Mimi Haley, whose cases are set for retrial in November.

The legal team for Weinstein, led by Arthur Aidala, has signaled their opposition to combining the new charges with the pending trial.

Judge Curtis Farber will determine whether the cases will be merged during a forthcoming hearing.

Next Steps in the Legal Process

A hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday to assess Weinstein’s health and determine whether he is medically cleared to appear in court.

If cleared, Weinstein is expected to be arraigned on the new charges at that time.

Weinstein’s legal troubles have continued to escalate since his conviction in 2020 for first-degree criminal sexual act and third-degree rape, which led to a 23-year prison sentence.

Although that conviction was overturned on appeal in April, he remains in prison while he appeals a separate 2022 conviction in Los Angeles.

In that case, Weinstein was found guilty on three sexual assault charges and sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison.

The latest charges add to Weinstein’s mounting legal woes as he continues to fight his previous convictions while facing new allegations.
