Soldiers and BRT bus drivers clashed along Ikorodu road, Lagos on Friday morning, July 4, 2014 after a BRT bus hit and killed a soldier who was riding a bike on a BRT lane, according to sources.
The soldiers unleashed terror on all BRT bus drivers on the busy Ikorodu road over the death of their colleague.
The road at Palmgrove was blocked by the soldiers, and they began to vandalise every BRT in sight, causing a massive traffic.
The drivers abandoned their buses and fled for their lives.
The windscreens of the buses were vandalised and at about 9.30am, soldiers began setting the buses on fire at palmgrove.
An eyewitness who spoke with The Trent said that not less than four buses were burnt down and many others vandalised.
A journalist who attempted to take photos was severely beaten by the soldiers and had to be rushed to the hospital. Some other pedestrians who were making calls with their phones or even just holding the phone in sight were slapped and kicked and their phones seized or damaged.
According to sources, at least 80 soldiers on the road between Onipanu and Palmgrove and pedestrians were required to raise their two hands as they passed to avoid beating by the soldiers.
