An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Baba Ibrahim, has been shot dead by some unknown assailants in the Kastina/Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Austin Ezeani, disclosed that Ibrahim was sent from Abuja on a special assignment on cattle rustling.

Ezeani said, “ASP Ibrahim was brought in from Abuja to lead a team of other officers to unravel the mystery surrounding cattle rustling in the state.

“The late police officer was with his men and were about to enter the main motor park in the town when some assailants, who were in a red Toyota car, drove into the area and started shooting sporadically.”

Ezeani explained that Ibrahim who sustained serious gunshot injuries was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, the other officials with him were reportedly receiving treatment for injuries they sustained from the gunshots during the encounter.

The police spokesperson added that the command would deploy available resources at its disposal to trail the assailants no matter how long it would take, according to Punch.

He said, “It is regrettable that firearms are now in the hands of the criminals who will continue to kill innocent people at will.”
