Gunmen Kill 4 Miners In Plateau

Suspected gunmen on Saturday, January 22, 2022, killed four workers in a mining site in Dong village of Jos North Local Government Area in Plateau State.

Sources said the four men were shot dead while a woman, who survived gunshots, is receiving treatment in the hospital.

Emmanuel Dong, a community leader confirmed the attack.

According to him, the attack occurred around 6 pm.

Gabriel Ubah, the spokesman of the Plateau Police Command, confirmed the attack to The Nation.

Ubah, said: “We are aware of the attack and four people were killed.

“The Command has deployed armed police men to the area and calm have returned.”

Dachung Musa Bagos, the Jos South/Jos East House of Representatives member empathisised with families of the deceased.

In a statement by his media adviser, Danja Dafwam, Bagos identified the victims as James Danboyi 30; Moses Peter Danboyi 24, and Livinus Pius Danboyi 19.

The member said the incident has raised concerns over the readiness of security agencies to tackle once and for all the gorilla style of killing, which has been the case for more than two decades.

He frowned at how easily small arms and light weapons find their ways indiscriminately into the country and move around without traces.

He called on the Federal and State Governments to charge the security agencies to tackle more seriously the insecurity across board.
