A group of unknown gunmen had on Friday, September 25, 2015 abducted, Japhet Obafemi, a renowned priest in charge of The Apostolic Faith, Ikare Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The 70-year-old Obafemi was reportedly kidnapped along Auga-Akunnu road near the Ondo-Kogi states border.
It was gathered that the abductors had contacted members of his family and demanded the payment of N20million ransom n order for them to release him safely.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a member of Obafemi’s family, told reporters that the family and the church of the abducted pastor could not afford to pay the huge ransom.
The caretaker chairman of Akoko North East Local Government Area, Alhaji Azeez Al-amam confirmed the incident.
This is coming up barely two days after the release of the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area, Mr Musliyu Sogbade, who confirmed the incident said the force is making efforts to see that the priest is released.
