A young bride-to-be was left devastated after discovering that her fiance had faked his own death to get out of their wedding.

23-year-old Brit Alex Lanchester was heartbroken when she received a phone call from someone claiming to be the father of her fiance Tucker Blandford, who told her that the love of her life had been killed in a car accident in America just months before their big day.

After taking time to digest the horrific news, she rang Tucker’s parents back to express her condolences, only to be told he was alive and well.

According to the Mirror, Tucker had posed as his dad on the phone to break the terrible news, with the words ‘Alex, this is Tucker’s dad. There’s no easy way to say this… I am sorry to say that Tucker is dead.’

The young bride had been looking forward to telling her American fiance, whom she hadn’t seen for months as he still worked and lived in the US, all about the arrangements she’d been making.

She was horrified to discover from the call that unbeknown to her, he’d apparently been ‘suffering from depression and had thrown himself in front of a car’.

But, when she called Tucker’s mum in America, not only did Tucker’s mother not have a clue what Alex was talking about – she also knew nothing of the planned wedding. Alex quickly realised the extent of her boyfriend’s deception.

‘All I ever did was love him,’ she says, adding: ‘After this I’m not sure I can trust a man ever again.’

The couple met in August 2012 in Tucker’s hometown in Connecticut while Alex was studying for a year overseas. They got engaged before Alex left to return home a year later and, had things gone to plan, would have married near Tucker’s home in the US last week.

Instead, Alex is now holidaying in America on her own and admits: ‘In hindsight, all the warning signs were there and I should have known he wasn’t going to marry me. But I was young, in love and naïve.’
